Grindings #004: Minnesota’s Arctic Chill

Minnesota's Arctic Chill

I’m not a person that likes to discuss the weather. In fact, I hate it. It generally seems like something that is only talked about when you have nothing else to say. Hence it’s a hot topic with the elderly.

Being back in Minnesota for a week to celebrate Christmas with family has taught me how great it is to live in California. In the Golden State one doesn’t have to worry about the weather. Literally you wake up, and pick from your heavy t-shirt, light t-shirt and tank top collection and go about your business. Choices one makes in their life are rarely influenced by the climate. Here in Minnesota though, you gotta plan ahead; layers on layers on layers are needed when one steps outside. You have to do everything you can to avoid that bone chilling wind all while avoiding a sweat soaked inner stratum.

Sure I like the snow – for a week’s ski trip or to here the crunch under my feet – but not when it is so frozen it is impenetrable. Snow is good, cold is bad.

California has me spoiled. And I’m clearly no longer cold blooded.
