Grindings #006: Quick Auditions

January 12, 2014

Box Angeles Grindings

This past week was somewhat of the up and down variety. A hybrid of still being in a winter slash post-vacation slump, yet having so many good things going on in my life. For example, I had my first audition through my new agency.

I always find it strange – and not sure if this is good, bad or means nothing at all – that while I am in the audition room, the process moves quickly, but the folks before me take forever. This literally happened again on this latest audition. The commercial was a golf spot, and was being done in groups; two guys and a girl. My lovely group literally waited no less than 15 minutes for the three hopefuls prior to us to get in the room and out. Our group, we were done in under 4 minutes.

Now this could be either end of the extremes; we just nailed it or we completely didn’t work. I like to think it’s the former, but you just never know. That said, if I’ve learned anything about the audition process, it is listen, do what they ask and you have a better shot of landing the commercial and getting in and out quickly.

Now for those non-entertainment folks, I am sure you are wondering, “Why does it matter?”. Well in this case, the audition was late-afternoon on the westside and those minutes meant dealing with rush hour traffic, or not. Unfortunately, I had to deal with the traffic.

I also got to step away for a little bit, as I went skiing up in Big Bear. A lovely little Friday night sesh of shralpin’ some man-made gnar. Was good to get my ski legs under me. And I’m clearly out of shape.
