5 Acting Podcasts Worth Listening To
5 Acting Podcasts Worth Listening To
(From a Working Actor)
There are a lot of acting podcasts out there. Some focus on the craft, others on auditions, casting, agents, and the sometimes ridiculous business of trying to make a living as an actor.
As a working actor in Los Angeles and host of Box Angeles, I’ve spent years talking with people in the entertainment industry. Along the way, I’ve made some great friends who happen to host actor podcasts of their own.
These are five acting podcasts I’d recommend, whether you’re just starting out, auditioning regularly, or wondering why you chose this profession in the first place.
Tipsy Casting
Best for: Behind-the-scenes casting insights
I absolutely love the ladies of Tipsy Casting. Casting directors Jessica Sherman and Jenn Presser are friends of mine, and they’ve both been guests on Box Angeles.
Their podcast offers an entertaining, refreshingly candid look at what happens on the other side of the audition table. They get into self-tapes, industry trends, casting decisions, and all the stuff actors wish they knew.
It’s fun, informative, and occasionally fueled by wine. What’s not to love?
One Broke Actress
Best for: The everyday realities of being an actor
My friend Sam Valentine created One Broke Actress to talk about the stuff that doesn’t always get discussed in acting classes: money, representation, rejection, and how to survive in an industry that doesn’t exactly offer job security.
Sam brings a relatable, practical perspective to building a career as an actor, from managing finances to navigating auditions and staying motivated when work slows down.
Sam’s also been on Box Angeles! While One Broke Actress is now releasing subscriber-only episodes, there’s still a great archive of conversations worth exploring.
That One Audition
Best for: Audition stories and lessons from working actors
I’m a big fan of That One Audition, hosted by actor Alyshia Ochse.
The concept is great: actors share the auditions, opportunities, and unexpected moments that shaped their careers. Sometimes it’s the role that changed everything. Other times it’s the job they didn’t get.
As someone who’s been on more auditions than I care to count, I particularly enjoy hearing how other actors navigate rejection, prepare for roles, and keep going. There’s something comforting about knowing even successful actors have their share of bizarre audition stories.
Audrey Helps Actors
Best for: Practical acting career advice
Audrey Moore is another former Box Angeles guest who has built a fantastic resource for working actors.
Audrey Helps Actors gets into the nitty-gritty of the acting business: agents, auditions, self-tapes, unions, career strategy, and everything in between.
What I appreciate is how practical Audrey’s advice is. It’s not just about believing in yourself. It’s about understanding how the business works and figuring out how to work within it.
We had a great conversation back on episode 254, where we discussed agents, unions, and building an acting career.
Box Angeles
Best for: Candid conversations with Hollywood creatives
And since I put this list together, I suppose I should mention my own acting podcast!
I’m Mike ‘Box’ Elder, an actor in Los Angeles and host of Box Angeles. I’ve spent more than 350 episodes sitting down with actors, directors, writers, casting directors, and other creative folks to talk about their careers and experiences in entertainment.
We get into auditions, rejection, creative breakthroughs, and the strange paths people take to find success in Hollywood. Some conversations get pretty deep. Others get wonderfully ridiculous.
I record these conversations at my bungalow in Los Feliz, and my favorite moments are usually when we wander completely off topic.
